Transport in Lublin

From the main Lublin Railway Station, Lublin Główny at ul Gazowa, there are about ten trains a day to the capital of Polska, Warsaw, and three each day to Krakow as well as other routes to major cities through-out Poland. The express train to Warsaw takes around two and half hours and public transport is available from there to Frederic Chopin Airport, which is only 10 km outside the centre of Warsaw.

Coaches run from below the castle in the Old Town serving many of the same destinations as the rail network. The Polski Express bus service runs seven daily buses from the airport direct to Lublin with a journey time of around three and a half hours.

Lublin now has it's own airport opened on December 17, 2012, at Świdnik which is about 10 km south-east of Lublin. This was constructed with the help of EU funding.

Presently (2009) there are no motorways or express-ways connecting the city with the rest of Poland. However,it is hoped that during the coming decade construction will start of express-ways S12, S17 and S19 which will improve road access to the city. On December 17, 2009 the bidding process for the construction of S17 express-way around Lublin commenced and the construction is scheduled to begin in 2010 with a finish date in 2012. The project will include building a much needed high capacity bypass around Lublin, resulting in removing much of the transit traffic from the city streets, decreasing congestion.
