The rivers of Poland have a total length of about 19,000 km of which 4,800 km are open to navigation.
The largest and properly best known river of Poland is the Vistula (Wisla) which has it's origin at Barania Góra in the Beskidy Mountains and runs the full length of Polska out into the Baltic at Gdańsk Bay.
Rivers of Poland have been used by previous generations for navigation especially in the period of the Vikings and for shipment of agricultural products during the times of the Polish, Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Poland has one of the highest amounts of lakes in the world, with only Finland having a greater density of lakes. The largest lakes cover more than 100 square kilometres and include: Lake Sniardwy, Lake Mamry in Masuria, Lake Lebsko and Lake Drawsko in Pomerania.
