Counties of England

The public administration system in England works on the decentralization principle, which ensures that the decision making and executing processes take place at the lowest possible level and closest to the citizen.

The England public administration system has many common qualities with systems of other European counties but also has typical elements exclusive to the British nation, due to historical, social and economic reasons.

England Travel Guide includes information on the counties of England. The counties of England today are mostly named after the historical and geographical regions of the country. A Borough or Parish is the third level of administrative division.

Some of the towns in a Council can be centres of more than one Borough or Parish. The reason is that in several cases the town itself and its surroundings form separate entities of administrative division.

Counties and capital cities marked in orange have their own webpages.

Transport in England

In order to explore and write articles for England Travel Guide I have found getting around England is easy as it has very good transport links both internationally and internally.

There are big changes happening to the United Kingdom's railways. As from 2023 Great British Railways (GBR) is a planned state-owned public body that will oversee rail transport in Great Britain.

The road network in England is extensive with good motorways, many dual carriageways, 'A' and miner 'B' roads.

By far the most common mode of transport, after the car or train, is to travel by bus. There are many bus companies operating local services.

Heathrow is largest international airport in the UK, others include Manchester, Birmingham and Gatwick. Low cost airlines also fly from East Midlands, Luton and Stanstead as well as some regional airports such as Bristol.

Here are some useful websites to help you find your way around England.

British Airways is well known for it’s service right around the world flying to many destinations.

Aurigny Air Services Ltd is an airline based in Guernsey in the Chanel Islands.

Loganair Limited. is a Scottish airline based at Glasgow Airport that flies into Norwich Airport.

WizzAir is an east European low cost airline based in Hungary flying from Luton, East Midlands, Gatwick, Liverpool, Glasgow (Scotland) and now Norwich. You may find them cheaper by booking in advance.

Eurolines is an European international coach company.

National Express is a national coach company.

England Travel Guide can do no better than send you to Seat61.com for national and international rail travel information. You will find very helpful details on the site.

Brexit

Boarders and different countries came about because of pride and attempt to reach God by man's own hands (Tower of Babel) so the Almighty confused their language. God offers us forgiveness and reconciliation with Himself and then requires us to care for others and try to get on with others no matter where they originate from.

In other words, God did not originally design people to be separate from each other, this came about because of man's sin.

In God's new world to come, there will be no divisions among people and we will be united under Christ. No fighting, no borders, no wars, no discrimination. God's new world will be at peace and those who love God in this world will get on together without any problems.

This is why I like to travel and visit other countries and associate myself with different nationalities and cannot understand why a multicultural country like Britain wishes to leave Europe. Sure, not all is well with the EU but turning your back on 27 neighbours makes no sense to me.

Highlights

City Break

Norwich is at the heart of Norfolk and each year thousands of tourists descend on the city to experience the sites and sounds and taste the food on offer. Although, it now has an abundance of fast food outlets and all the modern shops that you can find in any other European city, if you seek out the traditional Norfolk restaurants and explore it's ancient quarter, you will discover this historic capital of Norfolk.

Norfolk Broads

This famous Norfolk tourist attraction has 125 miles of lock free waterways waiting for you to discover. The Norfolk Broads is not only about boats but there is an abundance of wildlife to see and walks in peaceful surroundings. Relax and slow down from your busy life, enjoy the local pubs and regional food.

Nofolk Coast

I love the Norfolk coast with it's good beaches and seaside towns like Cromer, the market town and fishing port of King's Lynn.

Interesting Facts about Norfolk

If you are from the county of Norfolk, you might know about some interesting facts about the county. Please let me know so I can share it with others.

Broads National Park

The Broads National Park covers an area of 117 square miles (303 square kilometres), with the majority being in Norfolk, with over 120 miles (200 kilometres) of navigable waterways. There are seven rivers and 63 broads, the vast majority is less than 13 feet (4 metres) deep. Thirteen broads are generally open to navigation, with a further three having navigable channels.

On foot, cycling or on horseback

This region is full of hiking trails and is very popular with those that like the outdoor life. A number of cycle routes criss cross the county. Horse lovers can enjoy the bridal ways in Norfolk.

Winter

Norfolk in winter is when you need to wrap up warm before going for bracing walks. Watch the geese arrive for winter at RSPB Titchwell Marsh or admire the winter gardens at Pensthorpe Natural Park, Fakenham. With over 200 animals and birds, explore a different country, South America and their indoor play area, Jungle Tumbles, at the Amazona Zoo in Cromer.

Traditions

Norfolk being an agricultural land, each year Plough Sunday celebrations usually involve bringing a ploughshare into a church with prayers for the blessing of the land. It is traditionally held on the Sunday after Epiphany, the Sunday between 7 January and 13 January. Accordingly, work in the fields did not begin until the day after Plough Sunday: Plough Monday.

Norfolk Historic Buildings Group

The Norfolk Historic Buildings Group (NHBG) was founded in 2000 to bring together people who enjoy and appreciate old buildings and want to learn more about them.
