Bóbr River

The Bóbr River (Czech: Bobr, German: Bober) flowing through the north of the Czech Republic and the southwest of Poland, a left tributary of the Oder River, with a length of 272 kilometres or 169 miles, with 2km in the Czech Republic and 270km in Poland.

It is the 10th longest Polish river, and has a basin area of 5,876 square kilometres or 2,269 sq miles with 46 square kilometres in the Czech Republic and 5,830 in Poland.

The Bóbr orginates in the Rýchory mountains in the south east of the Karkonosze range, where the source is located near the small Bobr village of the Žacléř municipality in the Czech Hradec Králové Region.

Shortly after it crosses the border to Polish Niedamirów and runs north-westwards through the Jelenia Góra valley of the Western Sudetes to the dam of Pilchowice and into the plains of Lower Silesia, where the parallel Kwisa river joins it. The river finally flows into the Oder near the town of Krosno Odrzańskie.

Since the Middle Ages the lower Bóbr river north of Żagań marked the border between the historic regions of Silesia in the east and Lower Lusatia to the west.

The Valley of Bobr River Landscape Park was established in 1989. The Bobr flows through the park and separates the Izerskie Mountains from the Kaczawskie Mountains and the valley is known for a limestone cave near Lwowek Slaski with corridors and chambers about 136m in length.
