Cieszynka, Drawa and Płocicza - some mountain rivers are proven places to organize kayaking trips that provide a lot of excitement.

History of Człopa

Człopa is one of the oldest towns in the region, with a history going back 755 years. According to legend, the city was the capital of Dzierżykraj, a Pomeranian prince who is considered the ancestor of the Czarnkowski family, famous in Greater Poland. Evidence that these lands were inhabited during Slavic times are the traces of a conical stronghold, located about 2 km west of Człopa, among swamps and meadows near the mouth of the Cieszynka River flowing into Lake Kamień. The high forest cover of the area, exceeding 70%, nurtured by forest management with a long history with the first mention of the existence of the forest district dates back to 1792, is distinguished by a diversified forest dominated by pines, with oaks, beeches, birches and other tree species. Extensive forest complexes are a haven for wild boars, deer and foxes; badgers and raccoon dogs also live here, otters and beavers can be found on the watercourses, and the local marshes are home to a pond turtle.
