Kayak on the Krutynia River

Kayak on Krutynia River waterway which has to be the most beautiful kayak route in Poland. It begins at Sorkwity on Lake Lampackie and ends where the river flows into the Beldany Lake. The upper section has a swift current that slows down as the river meanders to the lower section that can reach depths of seven metres and the later section of the river is also known as the Iznota or Black River.

Lakes and Forests

The trail takes you through 17 lakes and a few streams of the Pisz Forest. Tourists stay in touch with unspoilt nature, admiring aquatic flora and fauna, watching mute swans, the biggest European birds and travelling across multiple nature reserves.

Kayak down along the narrow streams and across beautiful tranquil lakes you will come across Poland's largest bird, the mute swan, king of the Krutynia route with its nests visible from the trail. Mute swans can weigh up to 23 kg with wing spans of up to 2.4 metres. For bird lovers you can also enjoy the sight of Grey Herons, Cormorants, Coots, and Grebes.

The Krutynia route is not a difficult course and less experienced kayakers can also enjoy it. The lush nature of the Piska Forest and a scenic section near to the village of Krutyn are sure to enchant those that chose to travel this route.

Along With the beauty of the Krutynia River one can add the historical monuments of culture. Tourists may visit an Orthodox monastery and church of Old Believers and the Galindia a model of medieval settlement.

Don't be in a hurry to complete the 100 km Krutynia route which is best covered in about two weeks. Kayaking tours usually start at Sorkwity on Lake Lampackie and end at Ruciane-Nida on Lake Nidzkie. Kayaks are provided by organisers or can be hired from water sports rental centres.

Guided Tours

There are organised guided group tours including the hire of kayaks with overnight stops at marinas or agrotourist farms including, meals and insurance. Guided tours cover a daily distance of 6 up to 16 km. and sometimes kayaks and gear have to be transported overland. It is possible to create itineraries designed by tourists themselves.

Along the Krutynia route you will find many bivouac sites, riverside hostels and argrotourist farms which cater for the tourists needs. Most tours are organised during the summer months from about the middle of June until mid August.
